Access Level Up: Alt Text Pro (“Alt Text Pro”, “we”, “our”, “us”) is a Shopify application by AccessLevelUp. It helps merchants scan their store, find images with missing or weak alternative text (alt text), and fix them with AI or free templates.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Alt Text Pro accesses, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how it is deleted.
2. Information We Access
To provide the service, Alt Text Pro may access:
- Store name, store URL, and the email address of the store owner or staff member who installs the app
- Product images, collection images, and content file images
- Basic product information used to write alt text, such as product title, product type, vendor (brand), and collection
- Existing alt text on your images
- Information needed to manage your Alt Text Pro plan, billing, and AI usage allowance
We only access information that is needed for the app to work.
3. Information We Do Not Collect
Alt Text Pro does not:
- Collect personal data about your customers
- Access customer orders or payment information
- Collect customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, or physical addresses
- Track visitors to your Shopify store
- Add tracking scripts or cookies to your storefront
4. How We Use Information
We use store information to:
- Scan your store and show which images are missing alt text or need improvement
- Run scheduled coverage checks (for example, a weekly check) and show your coverage over time
- Write alt text using AI or templates based on your product data
- Let you review, edit, and approve drafts before anything is published
- Save approved alt text to your Shopify store
- Remember images you choose to exclude from changes
- Keep a history of bulk tasks, such as AI generation, template runs, and publishing
- Manage your plan and AI usage allowance
- Provide support when you ask for it
- Keep the app secure, reliable, and working well
We do not sell or rent merchant information. Scanning your store never changes it; alt text is only saved when you publish it.
5. Data Storage and Retention
Alt Text Pro does not permanently store copies of your store’s images. Images are processed temporarily when needed to write AI alt text.
We keep only the information needed to run the app, such as:
- Store and connection information
- Scan results, coverage history, and excluded images
- Alt text drafts, generation records, and task history
- Plan, billing, and AI usage information
- Records needed for support, security, and service operation
How long we keep information depends on why it is needed. Some records may be kept longer where required for accounting, legal, or security reasons.
6. Third-Party AI Services
When you choose AI descriptions, the selected image and related details (such as product title and your chosen language and style) are sent to a third-party AI provider to write the description.
This information is used only to create the alt text you requested and is handled under that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. Template-based alt text does not use AI and is created from your product data only.
7. Uninstalling the App and Data Deletion
When you uninstall Alt Text Pro, its access to your Shopify store is removed right away. Alt text you already published stays on your images unless you change it.
We support Shopify’s required privacy requests. When Shopify asks us to delete a store’s data after uninstall, we delete the store data we hold, except records we must keep for legal or accounting reasons. Because we do not collect customer personal data, customer data requests and customer deletion requests usually involve no data on our side.
8. Your Rights
You can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about your store
- Correct information that is wrong
- Delete your store’s information
To make a request, email us at the address in the Contact Us section. Depending on where you are based, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable security measures to protect the information Alt Text Pro handles, and we follow Shopify’s API and platform requirements. No internet-based service can guarantee complete security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page.
11. Limitation of Responsibility
Alt Text Pro is a software tool that helps merchants with image accessibility and SEO. It does not guarantee accessibility compliance, legal compliance, search engine rankings, traffic, or any business result.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, AccessLevelUp and its affiliates, staff, service providers, and representatives are not liable for any claims, losses, damages, penalties, or other consequences arising from the use of, reliance on, or inability to use Alt Text Pro.
